2015, Utilising technology to improve efficiencies within occupied premises
With rising concerns over eco-friendliness, there is a need to have energy efficient buildings that can also save on power bills. This, however, becomes difficult with buildings that are already being used.
The ten year old corporate premises were heavily occupied, which made energy optimisation a difficult task. The lighting and air conditioning systems needed to both be controlled in a way such that the systems worked according to the capacity of occupancy. If a certain area was occupied by less people, the lighting and air conditioning should be used less.
Whiston Solutions provided assistance for the development of an integrated software package that would intelligently use the occupational database of the building. This will enhance the existing building management system for optimal energy usage. With this solution, the system will only operate as much as the occupancy.
The lighting and climate control mechanism will reduce or shut off in the areas where it is not required, saving energy and thus money.
The software system that was developed with our collaboration helped the building operator to save on their power bills by adopting eco-friendly ways. We provided advice, expertise, and knowledge to understand what was required. The solution was about 75% building-specific and 25% customisable to be able to provide similar solutions to other buildings.
